The Godfather Magazine Cover

This magazine cover is very simplistic. It looks more like a work of art than a magazine cover, because of the intensely detailed portrait, and the plain black background. There is no advertisements on the page, and there is very little colour - the only colour being in the title, and even that is just a bland brown colour. It simply reads "THE GODFATHER - The greatest movie of all time". This does the film alot of justice because it's suggesting that that is all that needs to be said, and that the film is so good that it deserves the whole page to be dedicated to it, instead of sharing it with advertisements for other films or the rest of the magazine's features. The bar code, pricing, issue number, date, etc is all in a small white box in the bottom corner, which creates as little distraction as possible. This is not a conventional movie magazine cover, it is an exception, which automatically suggests that the film is an exceptionally good one. This cover says so little about the film itself, which is effective because it makes the audience want to know what it's about, and why it deserves to stand out. The use of light and dark leaves so much mystery, we are left wondering why this man is in so much darkness, but we know it means that the film is going to have a dark plot. This cover attracts a variety of audiences, most likely from the ages of 15/18 and above. Obviously this wouldn't attract people that have a specific taste such as comedy or romance, but anyone that enjoys horrors, thrillers, psychological thrillers, etc would be drawn in. I think that it would be less likely to attract a younger audience because of the lack of colour; colour is what is normally the most eye catching and attractive feature, and obviously this has none, its got a mysterious darkness rather than an exciting explosion of colour.
